In our NORMAPeople series, employees around the world talk about their day-to-day work, how they came to the company, and what they appreciate most about their jobs.

Carolina Morales is an HR Manager at the NORMA Group site in Tijuana, Mexico. In this interview, she talks about her tasks at NORMA Group, the biggest challenges she faces in her day-to-day work, and how she starts her day.

Carolina, how long have you been working at NORMA Group?

I have been with the company for three and a half years.

And what tasks are involved with your job?

I work together closely with the HR department and the recruiting team to align and advance NORMA Group’s current departments and tasks with the set goals. We identify the strategies needed to grow the business and develop new HR policies, in accordance with the company’s goals, industry trends and employer laws and regulations.

My responsibilities include, among other things, creating and updating our job various postings. I also participate in the interview processes to ensure that potential new employees can accomplish NORMA Group’s goals and requirements. I also keep an eye on the HR department’s budget and redistribute it when necessary.

What does your daily work routine look like?

My day consists of a lot of phone calls, job interviews and meetings, but I also handle the problems of my employees when they arise. I always take great pleasure in helping people and making their lives a little bit brighter with my support – either privately or professionally.

Is that what you like most about your job?

Yes, absolutely. Interacting with a variety of people is very important to me. This also means that every day is different – complex, difficult, challenging, fun – but always different.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your job?

Returning to business as usual after the Covid-19 pandemic and understanding that many people have had to reinvent themselves during this time and question their career path or development. This leads to higher turnover or professional concerns that I need to assist with or resolve as best I can.

What characteristics are important for your job?

Emotional intelligence and the ability to respond to your counterpart. Understanding, but also resilience as well as reliability. Employees need to know that I will always listen to them and give them the best possible advice on what matters to them.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to relax and spend a lot of time outdoors with my family.

And how do you start your day?

By giving thanks that I have the opportunity to experience another day. Then I get my workday started by going through my emails and prioritizing what I want to accomplish for the day.

And finally, please complete the following sentence: I work at NORMA Group because…

…I enjoy challenges and would like to contribute my experience and creativity to a company as dynamic as NORMA Group.
