NORMA Group is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The blog series 15 Voices – 15 Countries gives 15 colleagues from 15 countries an opportunity to report on their experiences at NORMA Group and tell us how NORMA Group has developed at their location.
Marcus Chan is Senior HR and Admin Manager at the NORMA Group site in Ipoh, Malaysia.
How long have you been working for NORMA Group?
I have been working for NORMA Group since April 1, 2013. This means I will soon have been part of the NORMA Group team for nine years. NORMA Group purchased the site here in Malaysia back in 2012. I was one of the first employees to be hired by the company in Malaysia after the acquisition.
What events at NORMA Group do you remember most?
I remember two events particularly well. In 2018, we held a global HR meeting here in Malaysia. HR employees from all our sites around the world met in Kuala Lumpur. We exchanged ideas, completed training courses and further developed our Core Values together. NORMA Malaysia was the host, so I had the honor and responsibility of organizing the complete event. I learned a lot and developed personally. Being able to meet my fellow colleagues from all over the world in person was simply wonderful. I will be very happy when this is hopefully possible again soon.
Another event that I remember quite well is a fire that broke out in our offices back in 2017. The fire was caused by a defective electrical appliance and resulted in us being cut off from the Internet for half a day. Fortunately, no one was injured. Thanks to excellent logistics and cooperation between all our colleagues, we were able to keep the damage to a minimum. This event has welded us together even more closely here at the site.
How has NORMA Group developed or changed since you started working here?
In recent years, NORMA Group has digitalized itself and standardized many processes. For example, each site used to use different hardware. Today, we use the same laptops, phones and printers worldwide. This makes working together a lot easier.
Our site here in Malaysia has grown strongly organically in recent years. Today, we have significantly more employees than when I joined the company in 2013. In addition, our site has also adapted more and more to international challenges. We are very proud to meet numerous internationally recognized safety certifications. We have also transformed our site in a more sustainable way. Today, we no longer power our machines with a diesel engine but with an electric motor. This is not only good for the environment, but also for our employees’ health.
What do you wish for the future of NORMA Group?
For the future of NORMA Group, I would like to see us grow at a healthy rate. I hope for sustainable economic growth and that our employees continue to enjoy their work. And of course I wish all employees worldwide all the best.
