In our NORMAPeople series, employees around the world talk about their day-to-day work, how they came to the company and what they appreciate most about their jobs.<\/em><\/p>

Planning, logistics and trade compliance for an entire region \u2013 that is the daily business of Ricardo Gutierrez, Director of Supply Chain, who has been with NORMA Group since 2018. In this interview, he talks about international projects, agile teamwork and how sports and family help him to stay focused and balanced.<\/p>

Ricardo, could you describe the progress of your career at NORMA Group?<\/strong><\/h2>

I started as a Supply Chain Manager in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2018. Three years later, I took on a role for the entire region, moved to the USA and assumed responsibility for the regional logistics department. My job mainly consists of looking after the core areas of supply chain: Planning, logistics and trade compliance for the entire Americas region.<\/p>

The rollout of D365 in the American plants began in 2021. Through the findings that were gained in this process, we were able to support the locations in Europe by sharing our knowledge and experiences.<\/p>

I usually help with everything related to the D365 implementation. I spent some time in Maintal, Germany, in January, supporting my colleagues at that site. As part of supply chain best practice sharing, I have also supported the plants in Newbury in the UK, Subotica in Serbia, Hustope\u010de in the Czech Republic and every NORMA Group site in North America.<\/p>

Which skill is particularly important in your position?<\/strong><\/h2>

For me, there are two things that are vital: Agility and resilience. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIn supply chain, staying ahead of the game is crucial \u2013 and to do that you need agility.\u201d\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

At the same time, it is important to recognize the things that are beyond our control. I cannot influence market fluctuations or political events, but I can control how we react to them, how we adapt and lead the company through what is happening in the market. Sometimes you have no control over what happens \u2013 but you do have to react.<\/p>

What does your daily work routine look like?<\/strong><\/h2>

No two days are the same. But I am disciplined and persistent, so I try to ensure that my working day is as organized as possible. I always have my daily tasks in mind, but also the monthly and annual targets.<\/p>

A large part of my time is dedicated to my team \u2013 that is very important to me. We have a lot of virtual meetings because my team is spread across different locations: I\u2019m in California, others are in Georgia, Michigan or Mexico. And even if we are scattered far and wide, it is important to work together as a team.<\/p>

What would you say was your fondest experience at NORMA Group?<\/strong><\/h2>

I enjoy supporting locations in Europe, Asia and here in America in pursuing excellence in supply chain. I have been involved in quite a few projects at various NORMA Group sites. I particularly appreciate the cross-divisional and cross-regional collaboration, sharing knowledge and implementing best practices.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

What I particularly appreciate is that NORMA Group demonstrates responsibility and trust in its employees. I have the opportunity to make decisions and thus help shape the company.<\/p>

Apart from work: What do you like to do in your free time?<\/strong><\/h2>

I love traveling \u2013 last year I visited two new countries and went to Asia. Sport also plays a big role in my life. Last year I ran my first marathon in San Francisco, it was very challenging, and probably a one-time experience, but it was something that I wanted to do for a very long time and that I have now achieved.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I also enjoy golf weekends and go hiking a lot. Since moving to California, I\u2019ve been spending an increasing amount of time hiking as the Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks are not too far from my workplace.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

And my son was born two months ago \u2013 so of course I spend a lot of time with my family.<\/p>

Does sport also help you in your job, for example when it comes to coping with stress?<\/strong><\/h2>

Absolutely! I work hard, but a good work-life balance is important to me. Sport helps me to clear my head. There\u2019s nothing better than a good run after a stressful day at work. It keeps me motivated and focused. I notice immediately if I haven\u2019t exercised for a week \u2013 then I feel drained.<\/p>

What do you most look forward to every morning?<\/strong><\/h2>

At the moment? Coffee!<\/p>

But apart from that: I love what I do. I am very passionate about my job. Every day is different, something new happens all the time \u2013 and that\u2019s what motivates me every day. My job is challenging, and that keeps me alert and full of energy.<\/p>

What are your goals for the future?<\/strong><\/h2>

The divestment of the Water Management business will involve changes that will also affect our supply chains. We will have to adapt. At the same time, I also see this as an opportunity to shape an organization that utilizes new technologies and processes.<\/p>
