In our NORMAPeople series, employees around the world talk about their day-to-day work, how they came to the company and what they appreciate most about their jobs.<\/em><\/p>

Luis Ibarra, OEL, was one of the first employees at our site in Tijuana, Mexico. Today, almost five years later, he talks about his most interesting experiences during the time at the company and his wishes for the future.<\/p>

Luis, what did you do before you joined NORMA Group?<\/strong><\/p>

I worked in the restaurant industry since I was in high school. After graduating from university, I moved to Tijuana and started working in sales before moving to the manufacturing industry nine years ago.<\/p>

What does your job involve?<\/strong><\/p>

I am responsible for process improvement through the optimization of manufacturing methods, reducing scrap and achieving set goals. This includes daily \u201cGemba Walks\u201d. These are workplace inspections with the goal of reviewing the current production status with the team and identifying opportunities for improvement at the same time.<\/p>

I am also responsible for monitoring project performance, especially analyzing the successful implementation of short and long-term goals.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

What does a typical day at work look like for you?<\/strong><\/p>

On my way to work, I listen to Mexican music or podcasts. Once I get to the plant, I start my day with a cup of strong coffee and go through my e-mails. When that task is done, I prepare for the Gemba Walks and work with my team on achieving our KPIs.<\/p>

What do you like best about your job and what are the greatest challenges you face?<\/strong><\/p>

I really like the friendly atmosphere we have at NORMA Group. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The biggest challenge was without a doubt the implementation of the D365 project and the founding of the plant here in Tijuana. But at the same time, it was also one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had at NORMA Group.<\/p>

Can you explain that?<\/strong><\/p>

When I started at the company, we were literally faced with an empty industrial site with a significant number of challenges. But there were also a significant number of opportunities. The plant became my second home. We are a very dynamic team that is constantly evolving and moving forward. It makes me extremely proud to be part of this development.<\/p>

What do you like to do in your free time?<\/strong><\/p>

I often go for walks on the beach with Mako, my two-year-old husky.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I also like to go to the gym. One of my hobbies is trying out new restaurants with my girlfriend. I like trying new foods and getting an impression of various cuisines.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

And finally, what are your goals for the future?<\/strong><\/p>

Professionally, I would like to develop further at NORMA Group. Privately I would like to open a restaurant. I already had one six years ago.
